BURPING - I CAN'T ANYMORE!

Recommended Posts

Anyone else having this problem?

Ever since I got banded I just can't get a good burp out anymore. I feel the air sitting there, but it just won't come up and it just feels like if I could just have a good burp I would feel a whole lot better. I've tried walking, jumping up and down, sucking in more air (like what we did when we were kids to make ourselves burp) - nothing! Eventually the feeling goes away, but I long for those good old long deep burps!

Sorry if I grossed anyone out.

I am so with you!! I used to be able to burp such satisfying burps, but now they get "stuck"...everything comes out the other end now. ;) But I do miss my burps--maybe it's the lack of carbonated beverages?? You know, since I used to drink a lot of diet coke and now I don't?? I probably was never a "natural" burper, it was self-induced with the carbonation.

Well, STOP with gulping air and swallowing it. For some it's easy to belch or pass gas with this method and for some it doesn't work. It doesn't work for me and it sounds as though it doesn't work for you either. Also, it's not from the lack of carbonated drinks either, unless you had one?

I am not a licensed medical personnel but normally, if you are dinking liquids and inhaling air at the same time, you've got air bubbles in you. If you are blending your drinks with a blender or similiar equipment, you are drinking the 'air fluffs' you've made now in your body. If you drink through a straw, changes are you are also inhaling air into your stomach.

I am not sure how far post op you are and if you still have gas bubbles as well. I suggest if you have tried Gas X (2 strips at a time) and it's not helping, or you've kept moving and not doing prolong sitting in one spot, call your dr for assistance for your concerns.

Good luck and keep us posted...am interested to hear what they say about this.

I can still burp - its different now - I think since the band if over our stomach and that's were we generally burp from... that could be causing the problem. I wonder since I emptied much of my band is why I can burp better.

I'm the opposite - I can probably burp 50 times in a row if I wanted! It's insane! I've never burped much and now it seems it's all I do.

Since I've been banded in Oct, I can burp on purpose (which I've NEVER been ablr to do before surgery AND if I feel one coming on, I can force it out. Go figure! Since we now have like (2) stomach pouches, the burping/belching will continue, just more of ~ and depends on what we eat, which we are changing as well.
