Did everyone manage to lose the required weight before surgery?

It has been SOO hard for me to stick to the pre-op diet during the holidays!!! Im scared im not going to lose enough weight pre-op and wondering if anyone else experienced this???

Hi sweetie,

Some do and some don't. I've heard some lost as low as only 2 lbs and still had the band surgery. One of the main purpose to lose as much as you can is to reduce the fatty tissues around the liver, which the dr can determine what size band to use on you.

I suggest to call Dr. Miranda, our nutritionist. She is awesome and can suggest as to what you need to do. I contacted her myself 'worrying' and she made suggestions and poof! I lost 6 lbs more! One thing that is important is to see if you can lose on your own, follow the diet plant, etc. If you don't lose, they may not do the surgery. So, how important is this weight loss to you? Yes, it's the holiday season, and just about one every month. We can always use the holidays as an excuse. Committ and be determine to be positive about this new adventure of yours. Do whatever it takes to make this a successful adventure, to live our your dream. Be assertive and discripline yourself.

YOU CAN DO THIS Sweetheart! We are all here for you to cheer you on...HOO RAH!

Christy,

I lost the required amount. And, I was sure to specifically ask Dr. Miranda exactly how much she wanted me to lose. That way I had a goal. My BMI was over 50 so I had a lot of work ahead of me to meet the goal. This is one of the most important and most expensive things that I've ever invested in... well other than my house, my car and my education. Do all you can to stick to your pre-op diet, not only will it help you during pre-op, but it will make your surgery less risky and it will give you the willpower post-op to continue making the right decisions.

I only lost 6 pounds of the 14 I was supposed to loose. To add to that I started my period the day of the surgery and so was retaining a lot of water. Dr Miranda wasn't impressed but my surgery went ahead as planned and by all accounts was really easy. Dr Miranda mentioned that it likely wouldn't be a problem because I carry my weight fairly evenly and not so much around my middle but I think everyone is different. She did say that the Dr might choose not to do the surgery but none of the Drs mentioned anything to me.

I'm having the same problem!! I worry about it everyday. Someone brings something sweet to our house every day. My family was here for Christmas and I made dinner here. It was impossible for me not to eat-at least I don't have the willpower now to do it! I just hope between now and Tuesday I will lose some.

Good luck!

Cathy
