400/month for 3-5 years sounds a little high even with a high interest rate. I went through my credit union and the interest rate isn't great...and my payment if only 220/month for 4 years. I financed the entire amount......$7950.

Where have you tried for loans and what interest rates are they quoting you?

Hope we can help.

I applied thru one of the ones that is listed on Dr. Ortiz website and they had two loans one was like 17% and the other was even higher than that. I tried thru my bank and they denied me. I am trying another one but still waiting for them to call me back. I don't want to give up because I really would benefit from this procedure. But I just don't know where else to look.

Thanks for responding, I wasn't sure if anyone would with this type of question.

Are you the member of any credit union or qualify to be a member? They are usually a little easier on the rates and easier to qualify than a band. Watch out for the loan companies. They charge an orgination fee on top of the interest rate that raised the "real" APR around 3% over the quoted interest rate.

I am a member of Christian Community Credit union. www.myccu.org. ...Anyone can join. I didn't get this loan through them but I have used them in the past and they are very easy. You can join online and do all the paper work via fax. I did my car loan through them also.

Good luck.

That's a tough one considering what the economy is like right now. Do you have no credit, little credit or bad credit? I would try going through a local credit union, most of the time they allow anyone to join. Depending on what you do for work, there are credit unions that work with specific entities. For example, I work for a school district and we have a credit union that will allow employees to join with benefits that are normally pretty good. I didn't finance my surgery, but I have gotten unsecured loans through my credit union in the past. Another thing to consider is finding a co-signer... perhaps your parents, because getting an unsecured loan without stellar credit may be difficult. I hope you're able to get financing. Also, if financing doesn't work out... start a savings account dedicated to the surgery.

I went through mymedicalloans.com and they approved me, I think I am paying $325.00 a month, I dont like it but it was worth it. My payment is high because I paid for mine and my husbands too. Did you check them out?

I think that was the one that quoated me the $400 a month payments and that was for $8950. Oh well, I guess I wasn't meant to have the surgery. If I keep applying for loans that will make my credit score lower due to so many inquires. Maybe someday, If I don't crock first. (haha). Thank you everyone that has responded. All of your advice was helpfull. ><' ><'

Bobbie,

Don't give up... save, save, save. If you want this badly enough, you can make it happen --- it might just take a little longer than you'd like it to. If you have items hanging around the house, sell them... on craigslist, ebay, yardsales, etc. Every little bit will put you that much closer to your heart's desire! Open a savings account dedicated to your surgery... pretend that you have a loan already and that you are making payments on it each month. Ideally we want the surgery NOW and want to pay afterwards, but who says it can't be the other way around? You can do it!

Fabi,

Congratulations! Not only on having a band date, but for the hard work that you put into it! I wish the health care system in the states were different. They just don't understand! I heard someone say the other day (in regards to me)... "Why doesn't she just stop eating. She needs to put the Coke down and grab some water." Those comments are what used to throw me into an eating frenzy. I wanted to say, "For the record, I haven't had a Coke in a month!" No one can ever understand what it is to be overweight unless they have been there.

Hi, I was thinking, your numbers don't make sense to me. (I'm gonna assume the rate is around 18% ?? )

$8950 at 18% for 4 years is 262.91

$8950 at 18% for 3 years is 323.91

The other question I have is this. Why 8950? The price is 7950 and then you have to pay the OCC $500 up front when you book the surgery. However, the loan company then adds another $500-800 back in for their fee, whic would put you financing a max of $8250 to be financed.

So looking at that:

$8250 at 18% for 4 years is 242.34

$8250 at 18% for 3 years is 298.26

To put it in further perspective:

On $8950, in order to get a payment of $400 for 4 years, the interest rate would have to be over 40%, which isn't even legal. In order to get a payment of $400 on the same amount for 3 years, the interest rate would have to be more than 35%.

And, many times they will go 5 or 6 years.

So, please look at what they offered you. Something doesn't sound right. This might still be within your reach!!!!!
