Guest mansaw
I was just reading another lapband board and I cant believe what some people are allowed to eat after surgery! Even I would be scared about some of the things they okay. ALSO - I thought I was "bad" by having that 1/4 cup of jello - jeezzzzzzzzzzzzzz you should read some of the things people ate the day of, day after a few days after surgery!!! Chips, lasagna, bread, and the list goes on. wow - and these are things people just went oops on...arent they worried! I am so terrified of messing this up I just cant get over it. Sorry about the random post but my stomach dropped when I read so many posts!!
MagnoliaGurl
Mansaw, we must be reading some of the same posts, because I saw those too and was shocked. I honestly can't believe that doctors would allow their newly banded patients to eat lasagna. And even if the doc doesn't condone this kind of eating, why in the world would somebody go through all this trouble (and money) to get the band and then gorge on lasagna 5 days after surgery!!?? Lord help me to have self control!!!!! #-o
Guest mansaw
yup - I completely agree....tomorrow is day 7 for me - so creamy soup stage and honestly I am worried about even starting that! In my mind I think maybe it would be better if I did clear liquids a few more days for more healing - but I am following Dr.Mirandas orders. I had drinkable yogurt today and felt guilty - I cant imagine having something solid! I would die of worry

I had drinkable yogurt today and felt guilty - I cant imagine having something solid! I would die of worry I agree with all of you! I'm so paranoid about every little thing--I'm annoying to all around me. I've emailed Dr. Miranda several times asking about little things--I'm sure she's sorry she gave me her email address. LOL I'm had my first liquid yogurt today. OMG! I though I was in heaven. How many can we have a day? Are we supposed to be trying to consume 1200 calories a day while on this liquid diet? It would be really hard to get that many calories in I would think. Now, about creamy soups...does that mean I can eat creamy potato soup if I don't eat the chunks? Yummy! tnm75
Don't worry to much about starting your creamy stage! You'll feel like you died and went to heaven! Yes, you can eat potato soup... just not the potato chunks. I went to Subway and got the soup-of-the-day quite often... I asked them to give me as much juice/cream as possible. I also have a chicken enchilada soup that I made... it was wonderful and extremely filling! As for calories... you do not count calories on the 21 day post-op liquid diet. I sometimes had a drinkable yogurt for breakfast and one for lunch... then a creamy soup for dinner and I would finish my day with a Healthy Choice fudgesicle. JazzyJude
I agree with all of you! I'm so paranoid about every little thing--I'm annoying to all around me. Now, about creamy soups...does that mean I can eat creamy potato soup if I don't eat the chunks? Yummy! Ah yes...love those yogurts too and still do! I had them in the mornings and did the nutrient soups throughout the day, 1/2 cup at a time, as much as I wanted. Yes, I did the Cream of Potato soup and Cheddar Cheese soup together with some spices and set aside the potato chucks. The last 2 days of creamy soups, I actually mashed down or chewed the dickens out of the potato chucks and I did fine. Like Kristy says, you don't count calories during the first 21 days post op...so go for it. Just remember to get your PROTEINS in! Proteins is the KEY to this weight loss success of yours. You should have between 60 to 90 grams a day. This will help your energy, hunger pangs, dizzyness, headaches, etc. Protein water (Special K2O) helps as well as those whey liquid protein bullets you can get at GNC stores. They have 42 grams per tube and I drink half in the morning and the other half in the afternoon. You can drink it straight up or with Crystal Light, Gatorade, etc. Don't be paranoid. What you are doing is what's call "lifestyle changes" and it's a good thing! You are also trying to be PERFECT and that is NOT a good thing. Relax and enjoy this weight loss journey of yours! You are going to have this band for the rest of your life and you will partner up nicely in due time. BE PREPARED! This is my motto in doing this band journey. You need to sit yourself down and be serious for a moment and get started on the right track. It helps to read through the posts on this forum to give you ideas. Not all would pertain to you but a lesson in learning is good. LISTEN to what everyone is saying and if it interests you, print the post and put it in your binder for future reference. KEEP A DAILY JOURNAL. I can't stress enough for you to keep track of what you are doing and what better to start a journal of your ups and downs? It doesn't have to be fancy. I use a 3-hole lined paper pad I pruchased from Target, like the ones the high schoolers used. I write on the front page, the foods I eat at meal times and snacks, mark off my water intake, write my small, reachable goals and rewirte them as I achieve them, my feelings for the day and what exercises I've done. If this was a good day, I just put a star up on the top corner of the page for future reference. The back page can be to add more info for the day or can be for the next day's journaling. ORGANIZE. Read up and have everything ready ahead of time. Place your binder and journal nearby and keep them up to date. Have a calendar of menu planning and when to get your fill, etc. I know, I know ~ you all think I am crazy to go this far...but heck, it's working for me and, again, I've paid good hard earning money for this surgery so I need to do my best to make it a success for me. Sorry to go off the subject but THIS is what helps me to get through the hard times and to keep stress at a minimum, keeping informed and being prepared is making my band adventure a good one.... jhawkchick75
Unfortunately some people are just not mentally ready for the procedure. They think this is a fix all that will mean they will no longer have cravings, hunger, etc...and think that all will be lollipops and rainbows. I knew it will still be a lot of work on my end. If I would have had this surgery 1 year before I would have failed because I wasn't ready for it. Now I am. I see someone else for aftercare and that is one thing I struggled with was that the doctor I am going to had a different post-op diet for his patients than I got at OCC, but I stuck with what OCC gave me. I trusted Dr. O to do my surgery, so I felt comfortable with his post-op diet. Also, his was definitely more conservative than my follow up doctor, so that helped with my obsessive compulsiveness and my freak-out-ness when it came to every little thing I did in post-op.
