BandDiva
I have heard patients after a couple years have had their Inamed bands removed because they occluded. I also heard that the Inamed bands were considered 'high pressure' and some people just could not tolerate them. Is this true (high pressure) & what does it mean? I know that I was banded in October and my band is Inamed. I am not having any problems & I want to continue down that path. But, I do want to be well educated about my new body part. LOL Is the OCC going to start with the Realize band? How does Dr. Ortiz feel about the Realize band? Does he feel it is an improvement, or is this just a way for American Dr.'s to scare Mexican bandsters? Again, I am so happy with my band, Dr. Ortiz & all of the OCC. But, there is a movement online out to get Doc's from Mexico. (I received an email) Of course I say how happy I am and how much I love the OCC, but I want to know more so I can combat these attacks. Thanks!
premiema
I too have encountered some problems in the US. My first doctor made me feel terriablle and was hysterical in his office. He refused to fill me after 8 weeks. He wanted to see me in 6 more weeks. I scheduled an appointment with another Doctor who I am pleased with. This doctor required an upper GI track after the nurse looked at the test she made a comment that the band I had is not the ones they used in the US. She said this is an "old" band doesn't have as much give than the newer ones. I believe by the same company maybe just the size.
dejongshy
The new band is not really that different from the old band. My mothers doctor installed the old band and before we had surgery she asked him what the difference is. He told her the new band has more surface area that expands (not much). The other thing that I didn't like was that it has some type of metal band, and she was told some people have had it go off at the airport so you have to carry paperwork (don't quote me on that). I wouldn't want to have to explain this every time I go through metal detectors.... Shy
Karleigh
I'm also curious to know the differences. I had mine done in the US because it was paid for by my insurance, and it's the new Realize band. Perhaps the Realize band needs less adjustments. My doctor told me that only a small percentage of his patients need adjustments, and I've noted how all of you discuss all of your fills and such. Perhaps this is because of the new one expands, as Shy stated. I think the reason many of your US doctors are worried over your choice to go to Mexico is because there are MANY surgeons in Mexico that aren't good like the doctors at OCC. US doctors are probably unaware how reputable the OCC surgeons are. I wouldn't take it personally, just tell them that these surgeons aren't the crazy ones they all hear about working in Central America.
dejongshy
Actually the US doctors don't like the fact that we paid 1/2 price. My mothers doctor raised his prices by $9,000 in one year. Outrageous..... Shy
dejongshy
I should also state that Dr. O trained my mothers doctor but he wouldn't touch us for fills because we were done in Mexico....
BandDiva
I should also state that Dr. O trained my mothers doctor but he wouldn't touch us for fills because we were done in Mexico.... It is a crazy world we live in! Dr. O told me that he trained 90% of the Doc's here in Texas. When Lori gave me the list of Doc's who do fills for Mexican Bandsters I talked to several but chose Dr. Jay @ Medical City. Then after talking to Dr. O, I found out that he is amongst the 10% who he did not train. However, Dr. Jay raved about Dr. O!! He said he was well respected. I think like you said, to some Doc's it is simply, about the Money! Dr. O is brilliant!
Karleigh
It's a shame if that's really why docs aren't working on Mexican patients. Your success will be payback. Keep on working, you guys!

ckiki
I believe my card just says "Lap Band System" or just "Lap Band". It doesn't say Inamed.
BandDiva
I believe my card just says "Lap Band System" or just "Lap Band". It doesn't say Inamed. Yes, I am sorry. It does say 'Lap Band System'. The founding corp is, Inamed. So, sounds like we all have the same band (which is the older version). Here is a thread from lapband talk about the differences. Doesn't sound like a huge difference. I still wonder the OCC's opinion and IF they are going to start using the Realize band. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f278/realize-vs-inamed-50722/

Cujo
I don't remember where I got this from but I thought Dr O preferred the Inmend band over the Realize band due to how the port attached to the surface, also Realize has a wide but flat port, therefore a biggers target area for the needle but its thin so the needle may pierce the other side. Or was that the otherway around? I think this is a Coke vs Pepsi comparison. Its the same stuff but people still have preferences
