ackovach
Hi all, It has been a long time since I posted. Just got busy with holidays. I am not sure where to start. I was banded on Aug 1 2008. I have lost almost 40 pounds. And reduced my blood pressure meds from3 meds a day to 1. So I am happy so far. But I really wanted my bmi lower & no blood pressure meds before getting prego. But we are like little bunnies these days and did not take proper precautions. So here I am... very happy to be pregnant. But I am scared that I will have complications due to my bp. I had major complications in a previous pregnancy. Anyone have advice or know how long I can keep my restriction during pregnancy? Just looking for some insider information..... With my last pregnancy, I started out with uncontrolled blood pressure that I did not know I had. It took a while to get it under control. I weighed about 219 when I got pregnant too. And I had not been exercising regularly. My son came at 32 weeks 7 weight 2.13 pounds. It was a very scary time. Now I have controlled blood pressure, weight 30 pounds less & have been exercising regularly for 15 weeks. So I am very, very hopeful for a healthy pregnancy & baby!!!! cheers, Amy

louisem
Hi there I had a friend who had some serious issues during her pregnancy due to her weight and she ended up not gaining any weight throughout her whole pregnancy due to a very restrictive diet required by her health problems. The key note here is that she had extensive consultations with her doctor and a nutritionist. Overall, she had a very healthy pregnancy followed by a very healthy baby. I think the key is to get to the doctors and get the help of a nutritionist as soon as possible to make sure you are doing what is best for both you and baby. I think that goes for anyone regardless of whether or not you have a lapband. Congratulations! Louise
mona-camille
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, a baby!!!! I say, it's a girl! LOL, in case you wanted to know that. You might need to have your band unfilled, but I don't know. I thought I heard that before. Just keep your doctor well informed. Maybe even give Dr. Ortiz a call and see if he has any thoughts. So nice to see you here again. I was off for a while too.
Willi333
YAYYYY !!!! CONGRATULATIONS !!!! Amy, that is wonderful news Sorry I'm only a mom of 3 "fourlegged kids", so I can't be of any help in regards to your bp/pregnancy question. I guess the best thing is to discuss it with your doc. For the restriction part ... You might need a partial or complete unfill .... I'd talk to Dr. Ortiz Congrats again <' />
nicolek
Hi And congrats you're making me broody but don't tell Cujo (hubbie)LOL A friend of mine was banded and had lost about 50lb when she fell pregnant( these bands make fertile women) She kept her fill until about 6mths and then had a complete unfill. Just see how you go.
karenlynn79
Hey Amy, congrats!! That's exciting. I talked to my OBGYN about the restriction. She pretty much said to have it taken out immediately and she wanted me to gain the regular 30 lbs (even though I was like 215 at the time I got pregnant). But all docs are diff. I think I completely unfilled at about 2.5 months. As I got more pregnant I did have a little more natural restriction but never had any band issues at all. And I did gain 31 lbs. It was hard because I had to start over after Evee was born, but then, I did get a cute baby out of it!! Good luck!! Karen
JazzyJude
Amy ~ welcome back and congrats too! Aw...that is just too cool! Like the others have said, call your dr and talk things out. Just see how you go. Hi Nicole!! Did you friend gain any weight during pregnancy? According to obgyn that spoke to before I got pregnant, she thought that I should gain only 5 to 15 pounds. And said I could use to band restriction as long as the baby is growing properly and I am healthy. I am making an appointment for next week. I will keep you guys posted!!!! jhawkchick75
Congrats! I have heard of many people getting pregnant post-band. Most likely feeling a little more spicy in the bedroom as well as the healthy eating helps your fertility. Here is a link to a video blog of a woman who has lap band and is pregnant. This is off the website of the dr I see for aftercare. Every doctor will be different, but you can see what she is going through! Congrats! http://www.malleysurgical.com/testimonial/teresas-story.html

bigali
Congratulations on or little bundle in the oven. I pray that you do have a healthy pregnancy and baby. Any weight lose and especially any physical activities makes a big difference. I now because that is one of the reasons I got the lapband. I had a difficult pregnancy with my last son and I now I wanted at least one more and did not want to risk the life of anywhere baby and mine. Anyways stay positive and have a healthy pregnancy. CompletelyRevised
Hi, I'm prego (28 weeks). I had the lap band for a year before becoming prego. I've had no complications so far. I do take lots of pills though, throughout the day (can't take them all at once:) I take an extra chewable calcium, a prenatal, folic acid and DHA. In addition to getting lots and lots of protein. I by the protein shakes and drink plenty of those. I've only gained a total of 10 pounds so far but I lost 8 in the beginning from morning sickness and gained it back in the 2nd trimester along w/ 10 pounds. I never had an unfill as I'm too nervous about gaining a lot of weight (I gained 60 w/ my first). My dr is/was never concerned at all except about the baby getting the nutrients it needs. I guess the biggest prob w/ prego lapbanders is that they baby is anemic. All my checkups have been totally normal and I'm trying hard not to gain more than 15 pounds although the past couple of weeks I've been craving sweets and have given in, and also gained about 4 lbs in 2 weeks. So I just have to be strict again:) Also I'm having a csection and my dr is not concerned about complications since he says he will be nowhere near the band. Feel free to ask me any questions. I know I was super worried and couldn't find anyone that had been prego w/ the band!
