how quickly does a fill wear off??

Recommended Posts

Everything has been great with my first fill (1.8 CC, Jan. 8). I've had a lot of restriction. Then all of a sudden it seems like I am ravenous and can eat whatever I want! It was like an overnight change - literally on Wednesday I could eat hardly anything, and then on Thursday it was like I had no restriction.

Is that normal?

Yes, very normal like Cottonwood says. Also, remember your first fill is like a 'primer' for you and your band to get use to be restricted a little before your next future fill(s). My first fill didn't last long either, like 2 weeks and that was it. I got a 2nd fill 4 weeks from my first fill date and I still have good restriction from my 2nd fill from Dec 20 (over a month ago ~ 42 days).

FYI ~ in case you didn't know, your esophagus 'shape/frame' makes a whole difference too. For example, for me, I have a VERY narrow passage-way in my esophagus, so my fills will be tiny (my first was 1cc and my 2nd was .6cc). Every person's body is different and fills a totally to attune to YOUR restriction only. Don't compare to others...it's how YOUR band reacts to YOU and your body. Remember, too, you may eat less as you get your fills.

Jude,

I am wondering what I should do. I am still eating small portions, but not as small as they were right after my second fill but still 1/3 of what I used to eat. AND remember my fill doc REALLY thought I was fine with just the 1cc, I had to beg for the .5cc more. Anyway, I am not losing weight, at a total stand still for the last 2 weeks. I know this happens to everyone and maybe my body will catch up soon. I am just afraid If I book a fill apt. he is going to be like 'why are you here' and then I get charged 250.00 for nothing, or a tiny, tiny fill. It is such a dilema!

It varies, with my first fill, I could still eat anything, I've had my second fill since November 5th and I still have pretty good restriction, but it's true. Some days I can eat and other days I can't. And I'll go a week without PBing and then I'll PB every day for three days. The band is a strange and mysterious thing.

Dana, if I was in your shoe, I would switch around my food during the day. Also, I been doing a high calorie day, one day a week, and then I pretend I got banded and went on creamy soup stage. Even upped my proteins real high one day and exercised the dickens out of my body. There are a couple of weeks, that I would eat the same foods for days at a time, and then switch to something different.

What I am doing for me, is tricking my body. Sometimes your body knows you are going to be 'predictable' and your mind knows what your next meal is going to be. So, I would spontaneously change my meal and do a different exercise for a few days and viola! I start to notice subtle differences in how my clothes fit, my attitude, etc.

See if these ideas might help you...GOOD LUCK Babe!

Amanda,

Yes, I had my first fill and I could eat anything. I felt like it was all up to me to do this. I was on the phone with my fill Doctor at lunch scheduling my second fill. I told here that I could eat anything and felt like I had NO fill. I did schedule my second fill. I got off the phone and started to eat my lunch. I had brought a pork chop for lunch, being that I could eat anything. Well the phone rang and I chewed a couple of times and swallowed. OHMYGOSH, guess what, I found out I HAD A BAND!!!! I got stuck and it hurts so bad. Pork chop went in the trash and I dont ever want another one...lol. Just saying be careful. My second fill is very tight. When I look back on what I was eating before my second fill, I honestly was not eating as much as I thought I was. I think I had it in my mind, a couple of bits and I will be done. I had to realize I sill have to eat. Now I can not eat eggs and have a problem with meat. I get the "stuck" feeling very easy. I sometimes wonder if the "Self Control" with a smaller fill is not better than my tight fill. Good Luck?

Carrie
